What Lindsay's clients say

In their own words

“I've already noticed myself drawn to old behaviors, and then remember the statement, ‘Mel, relax and be peaceful,’ with an image of myself as calm. Then I am calm and haven't yet engaged in the old behavior. Thank you!”

Mel

“After a session with you ten days ago, I am very happy to report that my 9-year case of insomnia is cured! I cannot thank you enough for helping to re-wire my mind. Your approach to hypnosis seems so simple, but really is brilliant. Since our session, when I'm ready to sleep, my mind just shuts down, and I fall asleep quickly and — amazingly — stay asleep until my alarm goes off. As a result of this great sleep, I feel as if I have a new lease on life. What you accomplished in one short visit was nothing short of a miracle!”

Carri

“I've been to see Lindsay twice — to quit smoking, then 20 years later, to lose weight. My sessions with him have been fascinating and have had profound realizations. The first session for smoking — I walked out a non-smoker, period! Yesterday was my weight loss session. Amazing! I immediately noticed changes in my perceptions and my behaviors.”

The short answer

What is hypnosis, and what is the process that makes it work?

The state of hypnosis is a mental state in which the brain is open to suggestions. A suggestion is a set of words that creates a perception that a given behavior is true. Through some neural brain process that has yet to be discovered, the brain causes us to automatically experience the behavior consistent with the suggestion.

In essence: Bradian Hypnotherapy changes how you perceive things — and when you change how you perceive things, you automatically change how you feel and how you act.

Meet a hypnosis pioneer

Lindsay A. Brady, C.Ht.

Lindsay A. Brady, Certified Hypnotherapist

As a professional hypnotist since 1970, Lindsay Brady, Certified Hypnotherapist, has conducted sessions with more than 27,000 clients in a clinical setting, and has hypnotized thousands more during demonstrations, stage performances, and lectures.

Contributing extensively to the promotion of hypnosis and hypnotherapy, Lindsay served for more than 15 years as an officer on the board of the Arizona Society for Professional Hypnosis, which, during his presidency, was the largest and most active non-profit hypnosis organization in the United States. He acted as its president for five terms.

Recognized as a leading clinical hypnotherapist, Lindsay's reputation and high success rate have attracted clients throughout the United States and internationally. He has been featured in newspaper articles regarding hypnotherapy, and has appeared on radio talk shows and TV specials concerning the phenomenon of the hypnotic process.

In 1990, he established the Lindsay A. Brady Institute for Hypnotherapy.

Lindsay A. Brady

Lindsay's approach to hypnotherapy is distinctly different from traditional methods and those of his contemporaries. His procedure is simple, easy, and effective. His technique has been developed and refined during more than 50 years of working with individual clients.

Early in his career, he observed that when a person's self-perceptions are changed, their behavior automatically changes. In short, human behavior is not determined by what we want or what we are trying to do, but by how we "see" ourselves, and how we perceive ourselves responding to the people, circumstances, and events of daily life. Lindsay discovered that by simply changing a client's self-perceptions with hypnotic suggestions, the desired behavior automatically occurs.

As the Pendulum Swings, a book by Lindsay A. Brady

The humorous and fascinating origin story of

Bradian Hypnosis

Discover the driving force behind "hypnosis." Learn what it is and what it is not — what it can do and what it cannot do.

As the Pendulum Swings is a treatise intended to dispel outmoded ideas about "hypnosis" as being something a person goes into or under, or that it is a trance in which a person is unaware.

This is not only a book about "hypnosis," but also a memoir about how the author's life transformed from one of fear, low self-esteem, guilt, and self-doubt into one of confidence, joy, and peace of mind.

It tells stories about the lessons he learned from thousands of clients that, in turn, compelled him to scrap obsolete terms, techniques, methods, and even some of his most cherished concepts. It is a book about having to adjust his approach in order to help his clients more easily achieve their goals, engage in healthy behavior, be free from guilt, and find happiness and peace of mind.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people usually want to know

How much does it cost?

The fee for the initial session is $310. Any subsequent sessions within a year are $105, even if they address different issues. If payment is made by check or cash, the fees are $300 and $100 respectively.

How many sessions does it take? What if I need more?

In most cases, when addressing a specific issue such as smoking or vaping cessation, fear of flying, anxiety reduction, alcohol abuse, or public speaking, only a single session is required. A recording of your session will be made and sent to your email address for you to listen to, reinforcing the hypnotic suggestions.

How does the online session work?

The effectiveness of the hypnotic process does not rely on the physical presence of the hypnotherapist. The power that influences a change in behavior resides in the brain of the subject, rather than in the hypnotherapist. When a hypnotic suggestion is given, whether in person or virtually, it triggers a perception in the mind of the subject, leading the subject's brain to produce the behavior.

While virtual sessions may lack the personal warmth of in-person interactions, online sessions have proven to be equally effective. The advantage of a virtual session is the ability to work with a client whether they live in the Phoenix area or London.

What if I have multiple issues?

A hypnotherapy session is most effective when it targets a specific issue, such as overcoming fear, breaking a habit, or managing stress. By focusing deeply on one particular challenge, the hypnotic state allows the brain to process and adopt new patterns of behavior. However, personal struggles are rarely isolated — many issues are interconnected. For example, stress might manifest as overeating, smoking, or excessive alcohol consumption, creating a cycle where emotional distress fuels an unhealthy coping mechanism.

While the primary focus may be quitting smoking, losing weight, or sobriety, the session may also uncover related triggers, like workplace pressure or unresolved emotions. So not only is the prime issue dealt with, but the related issue is addressed as well.

When issues are unrelated, dealing with them separately allows me to focus on each concern without diluting the effectiveness of the session. Hypnosis works best when the mind can engage with a single, well-defined goal.

What if I have a problem that isn't listed on your site?

With over fifty years of experience in hypnotherapy, I have encountered a wide range of issues, so the answer is yes. If you have a behavior that hinders your ability to experience a peaceful, healthy, and productive life, I would be happy to work with you.

What if I can't be hypnotized?

Everyone has the potential to experience the hypnotic process. If you have never undergone hypnosis, you may have misconceptions about what it is, how it works, and how it can be used to modify behavior. I define hypnosis as a state of sleep — a state of mind in which a subject's brain automatically carries out any instructions it receives from their mind.

During each session, clients are led through a series of demonstrations that confirm that once their brain receives a suggestion, it will automatically create the behavior that causes the suggestion to spontaneously happen. Now, if that is hypnosis, then yes, you and everyone can experience the hypnotic process.

Can you see couples?

I work with couples who seek help with the same issues, such as smoking cessation, healthy eating, fear of flying, or improving performance in a common sport. Both clients may sit in together during the pre-hypnotic discussion. However, the actual hypnosis session is conducted individually, and each client receives their own recording of the hypnosis portion of the session.

I do not work with couples wanting to resolve relationship issues.

Can I book an appointment for a loved one?

Indeed you can, but only after I have had an opportunity to visit by phone with your loved one first. My aim is to assist individuals in making changes to their behavior, provided they choose to make such changes.

Regardless of whether the loved one is a child, an adult, or anywhere in between, it is essential to visit with them to confirm their desire to make the change and their cognitive capacity to hold a conversation. If a five-year-old or ninety-five-year-old has the physical ability to dial my number and the cognitive ability to engage in a rational conversation explaining their interest in hypnotherapy and why they want to improve their life, they are likely well suited for hypnotherapy. Conversely, if they are unable to do so, scheduling an appointment would be futile.

Can I just hypnotize myself?

Yes, because all hypnosis is essentially self-hypnosis. The power lies in the subject's brain, not the hypnotherapist. Understanding the brain's language makes self-hypnosis straightforward.

During every session I have my clients demonstrate to themselves how, by sending their brain instructions in its language, their brain automatically produces the suggested behavior. Their brain doesn't care if a suggestion is given by me or by themselves — it simply responds to the suggested behavior.

I've been to other hypnotists. How is Bradian Hypnotherapy different?

My method of hypnotherapy stands apart from other hypnotists with a simple, effective approach — most often producing results in just one session. With over 50 years of experience and tens of thousands of clients, my method is uniquely my own. Except for the few practitioners I have personally trained, no other hypnotherapist uses my technique.

Unlike traditional hypnotherapy, my approach does not require clients to revisit past issues in order to successfully change their current behavior. Each session is structured into four key segments:

  1. Defining the goal — I begin by discussing the specific behavior the client wants to change.
  2. Understanding the motivation — we explore why they want this change and the benefits they would experience if it had already taken effect.
  3. Demonstrating the process — I guide the client through a series of demonstrations to explain how hypnosis works and how their brain naturally follows and executes instructions from their mind.
  4. Hypnotic suggestion — in this final stage, while in a state of hypnosis, I deliver personalized hypnotic instructions based on our discussion. This portion is recorded and sent to the client's email address for continued reinforcement.
Do you certify others as hypnotherapists?

I offer individual instruction in my hypnotherapy method. The course includes seven to ten sessions based on the student's dedication. Upon completion, students receive a certificate for completing my course in Bradian Hypnotherapy, and would meet the requirements for certification by the Arizona Society for Professional Hypnosis (ASPH).

Will my hypnosis session be recorded?

Yes. I make a recording of your session and send it to your email address.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my session?

No. Just show up with a clear idea of what you choose to accomplish as the result of your session.
